This week in object design we are starting a new project where we reverse engineer a mechanical object to firmly get a grasp on using rhino at a technical level. I had a really hard time trying to choose an object to deconstruct and rebuild because most of the items that I own are either electronic in nature and way too complex to disassemble, are too big, or arent even object-based in the first place. However, I still pushed through and found some items I thought would be interesting.
Here is an overview of the objects I was considering. I decided on a guitar winder/cutter that seemed pretty difficult due to its design, but still achievable. An old Model car that I thought would be interesting, a childhood retractable/nestled sword that I thought would be interesting and a pez because I wanted to make my life extremely difficult lol.
Here is the sword fully retracted. I am not sure how I will take this apart but it seems modular. This to me is the most likely candidate. Only has a couple hinges on either side, and will require some work to get the textures right.
I truthfully do not know how I would get a likeness modeled in rhino for this, but I thought it would be an interesting project to undertake and figure out how to reverse engineer a pez dispenser.
This car is seemingly made of few parts, and would probably be easier to disassemble. The issue being I am not super sure I'd be able to make a convincing replica but I'm sure it would be interesting anyways.
